Award-winning movie by the director Abdullah Oğuz, based on the novel Mutluluk by the Turkish author Zülfü Livaneli. The story is set in the beautiful Turkish countryside.

One day Meryem is found unconscious, probably raped, beside a river. Her family believes their honour has been tarnished and, according to custom, that she should be killed.   Meryem’s cousin Cemal, who has just returned from military duty in the troubled south-east, is the obvious choice of person to kill her.  He believes it is smarter to kill her in Istanbul and so takes his cousin for a trip to the big city.  They cross paths with Professor Irfan Kurudal who, weary from his superficial and intellectually desolate life, has decided to take some time out.
