Tombaz

Tombaz was founded in 1998 by Mr Emirhan and Mrs Meral Ari-Tuga. Their fascination with Argentinian tango dances aroused their curiosity about Turkish tango. Tombaz carries you back to Istanbul of the 1930s and breathes new life into this ancient, near-forgotten music.

After the succesful program 'Variété Oriëntale', which won the hearts of Dutch audiences, Tombaz now presents her new theatrical music show: "Café chantant - Multicultural cabaret from Istanbul". Café chantant was the meeting place of cabaret lovers in Istanbul at the turn of the last century. The cultural diversity of Istanbul produced a treasure-trove of music, musicians and singers. The typical cabaret songs spoke of unconventinal topics such as alcohol, drugs, sexuality and relationships. These lyrics were presented by female singers in Turkish, Greek, Armenian and Ladino (the language of Sephardic Jews).
Tombaz, a multicultural group of Turkish, Greek, Romanian and Dutch musicians presents these original songs in a theatrical music show.
