Barana & Co

BaranaenCo200.jpg Baraná & Co is a passionate group of Dutch and Turkish performers of improvised music, rooted in tradition. They recently received great praise for their performance in Turkey in the Babylon club in Istanbul, and in the Netherlands in the Bimhuis and several other theatres. In 2006 the group presented the program "İleriye Anılar" (Memories of things to come). In 2007 Baraná will introduce their new program "Modes & Makams", but the previous program "İleriye Anılar" will also be repeated. Traditional texts serve as a guideline for a journey which takes us through Turkish traditional scales and exhilarating rhythms, but also past playful, modern sounds. Baraná is Turkish for "get together, play together" and this name represents the important role of improvisation in the group. "Breathtakingly close ensemble play" were the words NRC used. The Volkskrant praised the "playful bridges between the two worlds" and the "highly inspired collaboration".
