Esra Dalfidan was born in Germany in 1975 to Turkish parents, and grew up there. She studied and worked in the field of music therapy until she went to the Netherlands at age 26 to study singing.

Her voice and her compositions form the physical means through which she endeavours to express her personality.
In her energetic, rhythmical and at the same time sensitive music the elements of her Turkish background are hard to overlook. They provide her music with its unique character.
Besides her studies at the conservatory she focuses on composition and writes her own music for Fidan, her quintet.
In February 2007 Esra Dalfidan won the 7th Dutch Jazz Vocalists Competition at the Odeon in Zwolle.
She plays with the young musicians Franz von Chossy (piano), Sean Fasciani (double bass) and Uli Genenger (drums), who started playing together at the Amsterdam Conservatory.
Guest musicians include Tobias Klein (bass clarinet and alto saxophone) and the Turkish master clarinet player Oɸuz Büyükberber (bass clarinet).
