Medcezir
Medcezir, a concept of composer Selim Doğru, will be an ongoing program of concerts in which arrangements of traditional Turkish music alternate with new pieces by Turkish composers living and working in the Netherlands. In Medcezir the authentic Turkish instruments can be heard in conjunction with Western classical instruments and electronic music, resulting in a rich and varied spectrum of sounds.
The concert is performed by the Axyz Ensemble and five Turkish soloists (both from the Netherlands and Turkey). Medcezir is a joint project of Kulsan and the Karnatic Lab.

A music that continuously goes back and forth between the old and the new, the simple and the complex, the mechanic and emotional, the relaxed and the excited is presented in this project.
The program consists of new pieces composed by Turkish composers living in Holland, of carefully selected and arranged authentic folk melodies, of classical Turkish music pieces and of unique improvisations of soloists. By voicing the pieces one after the other uninterruptedly the whole of the concert is presented as a large whole composition. The music has a dynamic structure that continuously moves back and forth in tidal waves from the simplest folk melodies to the most complex, abstract, modern compositions.
In Medcezir, authentic Turkish instruments, western-classical instruments and electronic music with their unlimited modern technology benefits all come together to form a wide sound palette.
This music journey which begins with the first note played in the concert turns into a breathtaking adventure within the flow of the pieces played in the concert.
