'a fine, short performance' according to the Volkskrant
Foto Jochem JurgensAAP by ThEAter EA is based on the beautiful text of Ein bericht für eine Akademie by the writer Franz Kafka (1883-1924). This short story can be read as a satire on the issue of integration of  'foreigners' in Western culture and the associated loss of individual identity. AAP is a monologue of around 50 minutes, and is performed by the young and talented actor Sadettin Kirmiziyüz

A monkey is captured during a hunting party and is sent by ship to Europe. Confronted with the loss of freedom for the first time,
he sees himself forced to relinquish his monkey-self in order to become a civilised person.
He is now a charismatic speaker. His eyes are convincing, proud. He moves like a politician. The only time he looks like a monkey is when his eyes focus on a memory. Eyes are the windows to our evolution.  Our history.  Do we not recognise
humanity most in the eyes of a monkey? And bestiality in the eyes of people?

'a fine short performance. with an enigmatic text that manages, with minmal means, to challenge the imagination beautifully.'
