Turkey Now Festival

In the spring of 2007 the Netherlands hosted the first edition of the “Turkey Now!” festival.

“Turkey Now!” displays the rich and dynamic panorama of modern Turkey, embedded in a rich, historical tradition. Turkey Now! 2007 included more than 20 cultural events. From classical music to theatre; from jazz music to dance. The Turkey Now festival was held at well-known venues in Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

“Turkey Now!” was produced and organised by Kulsan in collaboration with its partner organisation Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV).
The IKSV has been active for over 35 years, organising the famous international Istanbul Festivals in various areas of art and culture. Kulsan is a cultural organisation which has endeavoured since 1987 to acquaint people in the Netherlands with art and culture from Turkey, through concerts, shows and festivals.
These two foundations, which pursue similar objectives in different countries, found each other in “Turkey Now!”.

The festive and colourful program of “Turkey Now!” was an invitation to the public to discover the world of art and culture of Turkey. The program included concerts of Turkish classical music, jazz, rock and world music, as well as unique Turkish-Dutch cross-over projects. There were also film, theatre and dance events.

The “Turkey Now! Festival”, held from January to May 2007, was a great success. The festival proved entirely true to its motto: “Turkey Now! good for the soul!”. You can view the program on this site through ‘Agenda’ and ‘Music’. We will soon publish a photo report in the Kulsan Gallery.
Kulsan and IKSV have decided to continue this fertile Dutch-Turkish collaboration by making “Turkey Now!” an annual event. The preparations for Turkey Now! 2008 are underway.
